Now, Sony has commented on the reports.

“It’s true that we have made an initial statement of intent,” Sony said when asked about its plans for the Japanese media giant. (via Yahoo Japan, translated by VGC ). “We would appreciate it if you would allow us to refrain from further comment.”

Employees of Kadokawa are reportedly hopeful that a potential takeover by Sony is completed, due to issues with the current management at the company.

Speaking to Bunshun (via Automaton), economic analyst Takahiro Suzuki said that he believes that while Sony would be obviously thrilled by acquiring the wealth of content and IP owned by Kadokawa, Kadokawa itself may have little to gain.

“Kadokawa will lose its independence, and management will become stricter,” Suzuki said.

“If they want to keep developing their business as freely as they have until now, [the acquisition] would be a bad choice. They’d have to be prepared for publications that don’t lead to IP creation being put under scrutiny.”

Well at least they're actually saying it's about Kadokawa in the title now instead of just pretending its about Fromsoft but as others pointed out, this is less about the games and more about continuing their consolidation of anime and manga.

Both companies stocks are soaring high. The stock market is evaluating this M&A as a positive for Sony Group as their stocks are at the highest it even been at moment.
