Official NetEase Plans To Shutdown Developers of Visions of Mana

NetEase Games has cut “all but a handful of jobs” at Tokyo-based subsidiary Ouka Studios, which just shipped Visions of Mana under contract for Square Enix, and plans to close the studio, according to a Bloomberg report citing people familiar with the matter.

The few staff that remain at the studio will reportedly oversee the rollout of its final games.

This probably means that any additional profit from the game will go straight to Tencent, with nothing going to Ouka since the studio is being shut down.

That would give Tencent a strong reason to close them down just as their game starts to gain traction.

I doubt the game will bring in much money. They likely saw the signs with how people responded to it and decided to throw in the towel.

They likely crunched the numbers and saw it wouldn’t be a hit, but shutting them down like that is just brutal, especially considering they had other games in the works.
