Valve has significantly ramped up playtesting for the game in August, to the extent that Deadlock is currently among the top 100 played games on Steam.

IGN reports that Valve is using an invite system for the game’s current early access period, where certain Steam players are receiving invites and can then suggest other users to also receive invites.

According to well informed Valve enthusiast Tyler McVicker, Deadlock has been in development since 2018, features tower defence mechanics and has a fantasy setting mixed with steampunk.

It’s fun, but there’s definitely room for improvement—though it’ll get that as we’re still a ways from release. The character balancing needs some tweaking, and the map feels unnecessarily large, though I doubt that’ll change. A sprint button would be great (if there isn’t one already). The UI could use some adjustments, and the gameplay can be overwhelming in its current presentation. Despite that, the core of the game is solid, and I’m confident it’ll be polished by the time it launches.
