Have you played the Concord beta when it was available last month? While the game might be coming out of nowhere, the multiplayer hero shooter has quite a long development time, as one of the devs confirmed that Concord has been in development for eight years.

This was revealed by Concord Lead Character Design dev Jon Weisnewski over on Twitter posting under the handle “sharkeatsman.”

Today @FirewalkStudios launched @PlayConcord! The game has been in development for around 8 years and I’ve been there for almost 5 of them. We don’t get a lot of Launch Days in our careers so today is special for a ton of reasons. Oblige me some good vibes today.

Note that Weisnewski mentions that while the game was in development for eight years, they were only there for five years. In addition to that, Weisnewski adds that they are “strapped in” and ready to push the game for “years to come.”

Concord has so much humanity and depth to it. I really hope people give it a shot. Insanely proud of the game and we’re strapped in and ready to push it for years to come. ❤️

It’s honestly insane to me how long these games take to make. While it’s always easy and popular to dunk on games, let’s also appreciate the people behind them, as a ton of time and sweat has been put into each one (not just the AAA titles).

And if that happens, well, get ready for some disappointment, haha. It's a shame all those years went into creating a live-service game like Guardians of the Galaxy, a Destiny PvP, and an Overwatch knockoff.

But who knows? We'll have to wait and see how things play out at launch and a month after to see if it stays relevant. Right now, though, it's not looking too promising.
