Speaking on the Iron Lords podcast, art director Matt Hansen called 30 FPS the “bare-minimum” the team is aiming for.

“It’s a first-person, single-player game, you don’t necessarily need that 60 frames. And that allows us to get a lot juicier with VFX and lighting and all this other stuff,” Hansen said.

Targeting 30 FPS shouldn’t even be a goal; it’s the bare minimum that should be expected. Once again, Microsoft’s push to make developers cater to the less powerful Xbox is negatively impacting the quality of their games.

Why? 30 FPS looks terrible, and I say that as someone who's been playing on consoles all my life. The quality difference with 30 FPS is minimal—you really have to look for it. On the other hand, the performance boost of 60 FPS is immediately noticeable. It’s clear that 30 FPS should be left behind with the Xbox One. Those days are over.

That’s a no from me. I’m not trying to be picky, but my vision problems are worsening with age. Playing Bloodborne makes me very nauseous and sick. I have a no-level-up save at the end of the game and put in hundreds of hours, but I just can’t play it anymore. Even 60 FPS is starting to feel off to me.

Are we traveling back to an old, outdated console? Whoever decided on 30 FPS must either be out of touch—something that shouldn’t happen in the industry—or just plain incompetent. In either case, they should consider switching to a different field. It’s both embarrassing and unprofessional.
