Having released on Friday of last week, we're able to get an early glimpse into the sales potential of Astro Bot thanks to Games Industry's ever-informative Chris Dring. Apparently, the PS5 exclusive's opening numbers "aren't huge", and are roughly a third below what fellow platformer Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart managed when it first launched in 2021.

However, Dring is specifically referring to physical UK sales for Astro Bot, so we're still a ways off painting anything that resembles a full picture. "It's certainly sold more copies in the UK in just two days than Concord sold worldwide," he concludes.

From our perspective, Astro Bot's overall quality has never been in doubt — but questions over its sales potential were always going to pop up. It might be the highest-rated release of 2024 so far, but it's not God of War or Marvel's Spider-Man in terms of widespread appeal — and so it's always been difficult to predict its level of consumer-based success. Of course, it also depends on Sony's own internal targets for the game, which aren't public knowledge at the time of writing.

I do plan on buying it because I love Astro Bot, but lately, I've felt disconnected from Sony and the PS5. I decided to invest in upgrading my PC instead.

apparently it has been number 1 in alot of countries on Amazon and temporarily selling out in Japan.

uk sales dont mean a whooole lot. imo.

This is one of the best games of the year, backed by a solid team and a reasonable budget. It's not just another cinematic, story-driven, third-person game, yet it seems like no one wants to support it.

I really hope I’m wrong and the game does well. If it fails, it'll send the wrong message to developers.

Gamers always talk about wanting variety in games, but when they finally get it, they don’t show up to support it. Meanwhile, they're happy to buy the 20th Assassin’s Creed, FIFA, or Call of Duty
