Ubisoft staff asked bosses over the course of several months to delay Assassin's Creed Shadows, a new report has claimed, as the need for further time became clear.

"While the announcement was somewhat of a shock publicly, internally, it was expected and desperately needed," Insider Gaming writes, based on the accounts of seven developers working on the project.

The report cites a need for Shadows' developers to be given additional development time to address bugs and better incorporate recent "tweaks" to gameplay mechanics based on playtests and mock reviews (a standard practice where external consultants size-up projects before copies are given to press).

Of particular note here is the mention that Ubisoft is taking time to address historical and cultural concerns that have lingered since before the game was publicly revealed and been accelerated since. This includes "changing some of Yasuke's story and how he's portrayed", as well as what sounds like more minor design decisions.

I can’t help but wonder why they didn’t listen to their team from the start. Were they really just hoping to push the game out and fix it later?

That old corporate approach doesn’t work anymore. Gamers today are way more informed and careful about what they buy.
Plus, games aren’t getting any cheaper.

You can’t slap a $70 price tag on a game and expect people to fall for the same marketing tricks xdd

Well if you’re not delivering top-quality products, developers from Japan, Korea, and China will outpace you. Just look at Black Myth: Wukong—that should’ve been a wake-up call.

I don’t think pushing it to February is going to do them any favors. They’re up against games like Monster Hunter Wilds. It’s going to be a tough battle, and they’ll definitely need some luck

It’s a good thing they did.

Ubisoft execs might be eager to push the game out to cash in quickly, they often overlook the long-term damage that rushing can cause to their brand jeez
