Are Battle Royale Games Finally Dead?

back in 2017 with the arrival of pubg, everyone and their mothers wanted to make a battle royale games. There were so many in the following years that its had to name em all. Except for a few all failed and were buried by giants like PUBG, Fortnite, Apex and Warzone. Whats your take do you think it was temporary craze that came to an end or there is chance of resurgence or did the the devs decided to bandwagon on a new trend that is GAAS (Games as a Service) aka live service games, a trend a I also hope dies as soon as possible.

It’s surprising how well Fortnite is still doing. I started playing last year and had a great time, but I'm starting to get a bit bored. Fortunately, there are tons of player-created maps, so I can enjoy Fortnite without sticking to the battle royale mode.

I wouldn't be too upset if battle royale games faded away. I've been dragged through PUBG, Apex, and Fortnite by friends who always claim each one is better than the last, only for them to be just as dull. I don't find them enjoyable at all, and it felt like every new release was another battle royale game. While they do have their fans, I won’t miss the era if it comes to an end.

People thought turn-based RPGs were a thing of the past when Square Enix shifted to real-time combat systems, but then Baldur's Gate 3 won Game of the Year.

I think competition in the genre has faded because no other developer has managed to achieve the same level of success as the two pioneers, PUBG and Fortnite.

Your opinion seems as outdated as the battle royale genre. You might as well claim the MMORPG genre is dead too, just because it's not the current hot topic.

Despite the "craze," not many battle royale games have emerged. If Halo or Rainbow Six released a battle royale mode tomorrow, they'd likely dominate the gaming world instantly.

I don’t get why there’s so much forced hate toward Battle Royale games. If you don’t like them, just don’t play or follow them. Battle Royale isn’t going anywhere anytime soon—it’s made a huge impact on gaming. Take Fortnite, for example; it didn’t just become the biggest game of its year and then disappear—it’s still dominating.

Battle royales have evolved a lot over time. PUBG started the raw battle royale experience, and games like Apex, Warzone, and Fortnite took it to the next level.

Personally, I enjoy Fortnite (even though I’m pushing 50 and not exactly the target audience!). Despite its goofiness, it offers a genuinely good shooter experience, especially in the team modes. I prefer the no-build mode, as the building aspect is often dominated by players who are incredibly skilled at it.

Warzone 1 was also a solid team-based shooter, but Warzone 2 hasn't managed to replicate that, with the gameplay now heavily influenced by controller auto-aim.

It looks like battle royales are evolving into extraction-based games, but I’m not sure it will work out. The risk/reward aspect can be tricky—casual players might find it too challenging, while hardcore gamers might think it’s too easy. Creating this kind of game is much more complex, especially given how it punishes you for dying without insuring your weapon and includes various timers.

I think the frustration stems from the fact that most developers who wanted to dive into the Battle Royale genre and had the resources have already had their chance. They've either succeeded (like Fortnite, Apex, and Warzone) or failed to make a mark and moved on. Now, for a new Battle Royale to stand out, it will need to come from a studio that brings serious innovation to the genre.

Even though new games haven’t captured the same attention, don’t be fooled into thinking the battle royale concept is dead. PUBG has remained in the top 5 most played games on Steam for years, so there’s still market potential for new titles in this genre.

Releasing new Battle Royale games to compete with the current giants isn’t the best strategy. However, many companies are still adding BR modes to their existing games.

PUBG Fortnite and Apex are simply too dominant its not enough to drop a copy paste Battle royale now. You gotta have something groundbreaking to shake the market and find your place. If not then you get buried quick
