Remedy Entertainment has recently published its half-year earnings report from January to June 2024, showing its huge portfolio of in-development projects and giving details about their progress.
Royalties consisted mainly of game sales of Control and Alan Wake Remastered. Alan Wake 2 did not yet generate royalties. In the second quarter, operating loss was EUR 3.2 million, improving by EUR 1.6 million from the comparison period,” reads the earnings report.

Remedy also claims that Alan Wake 2 has still not earned back all of the money spent on development and marketing—most of it has been recouped, however.

It’s a testament to Remedy that most other studios would likely have let go of half their staff by now for not turning a profit.

I don’t think they even need to make a profit at this point. Epic funded the game for exclusivity on their platform, which might not have happened otherwise. Remedy is losing money that wasn’t anticipated. Once the exclusivity period ends and the game becomes available on Steam, GOG, etc., they’ll likely see a significant increase in income.
