"Whilst significant reductions in cost levels were achieved this year," it explained, "revenue targets have not been met and the Group is still struggling with negative cash flow." As a result, the company has made the decision to lay off a "large portion of the development team", impacting between 80 and 100 employees.

Thunderful says its shift from in-house development to external publishing will "reduce the Group's fixed costs and allow for greater flexibility, enabling faster, diverse game releases by leveraging external talent and resources in a balanced manner, while still retaining some internal development capacity."

Well that stinks. I feel like instead of expanding they could have stayed as a classic indie team. Sucks that theyre now screwed over, as the Steamworld universe is pretty cool.

Bummer, I am a big fan of all the Steamworld games (except Build, love city builders but could never get into it). My guess is they cancelled Headhunter and presumably are only working on Dig 3.

My hot take is their games are actually really successful for what they are: medium sized indie games.

Given that, why is their team 100-200+ people? If they would've kept their team around 25-50 then they'd be in the black.
